Information Theologist

information: what is conveyed or represented by a particular arrangement or sequence of things

theology: religious beliefs and theory when systematically developed

I recently decided to give myself the title “information theologist”. It was an idea that popped to mind and rang true, so I kept it.

That notion of ringing, resonance, is at the core of information theology. Information has the power to inspire and influence. To bring about harmonics of association, bridge gaps, grant learning, innovate.

The resonances of information are hardly predictable. We can only guess or assume what bit will tickle a fancy. There can be no science to the act of informing but there are things we believe, things we hold to be truth, articles of faith, dogma we use to shape our representations.

A theology of information, then, is the study, investigation, interpretation, explication and expansion of the beliefs associated with effective informing.
